Honeymoon, Day Four, five……

Fairy Chimneys

From Istanbul we flew to a small regional airport and then a bus ride to the Cappadocia region. These ancient rock formations are called Fairy Chimneys and many dwellings were carved out of the soft limestone.

This park allowed visitors to climb up and in and around some of the dwellings. We took full advantage of it. I tried to take a nap, but the limestone really isn’t that soft.

After driving through miles of fairy Chimneys and hidden homes, we arrived at a local restaurant known for their flaming fairy chimney beef stew. This was one of the best meals of the trip, so far.

There are some classic vehicles still on the road here.

We made our way to a town called Avanos where early Christians hid deep in caves to avoid detection and hold services.
